On the Road Again! DC Improv, February 2023

After three years of teaching only online, I’m back. It’s #RazTeachesInRealLife!

If you know me, you know I'm concerned about Covid protocol. Fear not. These masterclasses will be conducted as safely as possible.

The challenge for most improvisers is trying to stick to “the rules” and believing “Yes, and” is the magic formula for a successful scene. Characters meander and never find their footing. In an instant, you travel from a state of fluidity to a mess of frustration and ask yourself, “How did I go wrong?” or “Now what?” These masterclasses provide methods and exercises that teach you to connect to your partner and the scene without worrying about the rules and responding with a  “yes, and” after every line.

Wednesday, February 22nd
6:30 - 9:30 pm ET

Get in Focus - What are you focused on when you begin a scene? What great offers are you missing because you’re building a story instead of a relationship? Learn how paying attention to your heart and breath leads to strong scenes and surprising dynamics.

Thursday, February 23rd
6:30 - 9:30 pm ET

Point of View - It’s the bedrock of every relationship. You state your point of view, and your partner says theirs. Sounds easy, right? But how often are scenes derailed because the actors don’t hold onto their points of view or mindlessly add unnecessary details that throw the scene off course? Recognizing, maintaining, and evolving a point of view creates confident and exciting scenes.

Friday, February 24th
6:30 - 9:30 pm ET

Spatial Relationship - If you don’t move, neither do your scenes. The dynamics between you and your partner are defined not just by your dialogue but by where you are on stage when you’re speaking. Learn how physical distance conveys strong points of view, status, and dramatic relationships.

Saturday, February 25th, and Sunday, February 26th
10 am - 5 pm each day (one-hour lunch break).

The Weekend Masterclass (This weekend workshop is open only to students who have attended at least one of the week’s previous workshops or a masterclass with Razowsky in person or virtually.)

The Weekend Masterclass builds on Razowsky’s methodology of mindfulness, emotional awareness, kinesthetic responses, and truthfulness to create deep and surprising scenes. We will review the basics of connectedness and fly from there. This is gonna be good!
