Sundays, 10:00 am PST, Beginning 1/4/2026
(I love the vibes and the atmosphere of this place. Truly.)
Acclaimed author and improvisor David Razowsky returns to The Actor's Place for this exciting TWO-DAY MASTERCLASS, based on his unique approach to improvisation, championed in his book A Subversive's Guide to Improvisation: Beyond Yes, And.
David's theories are based on decades of work as an improviser, including ten revues at Chicago's Second City performing with the likes of Steve Carell, Stephen Colbert, Amy Sedaris, and Rachel Dratch, to the ten years he spent as Artistic Director of The Second City Hollywood, to the countless worldwide workshops and performances he has engaged in. Learn more, https://www.davidrazowsky.com/
Razowsky's approach is simple: Your present awareness is the only thing you need to create compelling, smart, truthful, and surprising scenes. Period. No games, no preconceived premises, no ideas, no ego. All that matters is now. The actor’s level of improvisation experience doesn’t matter, for all you'll need to bring to this workshop is your present presence. All you’ll leave with is your joy, excitement, and confidence. And after all, what more do you need?
This workshop is ideal for any actor, whether a student of improv or not. Starting from a methodology grounded in Viewpoints and predicated on real listening and responding, participants will learn to respond from a place of honest emotion and connection, a skill applicable to all performance forms.

Get in Focus - An Online Subversive's Workshop with David Razowsky
This is an excellent primer for those who’ve never studied with me!
What are you focused on when you begin a scene? What great offers are you missing because you’re building a story instead of connecting to your emotional responses? This four-week online workshop will teach you how to harness the power of kinesthetic responses to craft strong scenes immediately, recognize what your body is already revealing, and then establish a great connection from there.
All exercises and methodology are straight out of my groundbreaking book, A Subversive’s Guide to Improvisation, Moving Beyond ‘Yes, and’.
Sundays, October 5-26, 12-3 PM CENTRAL [VIA ZOOM]
$200
This workshop is a production of Dramatic Improv Productions.

It’s been a few years since I’ve been to Seattle, and, boy, am I excited.
Three masterclasses and a weekend intensive is being served up for those hungry for change. All at Theatre Puget Sound. I hope you’re coming!
Get in Focus
Date: Wednesday, September 3, from 7 pm – 10 pm (3 hours)
Tuition: $85.00
Description: What are you focused on when you begin a scene? What great offers are you missing because you’re building a story instead of a relationship? Learn how paying attention to your heart and breath leads to strong scenes and surprising dynamics.
Point of View
Date: Thursday, September 4, from 7 pm – 10 pm (3 hours)
Tuition: $85.00
Description: It’s the bedrock of every relationship. You state your point of view, and your partner says theirs. Sounds easy, right? But how often are scenes derailed because the actors don’t hold onto their points of view or mindlessly add unnecessary details that throw the scene off course? Recognizing, maintaining, and evolving a point of view creates confident and exciting scenes.
Intention: A Masterclass for Connecting to Your Partner
Date: Friday, September 5, from 7 – 10 pm (3 hours)
Max # of Students: 15
Tuition: $85.00
Description: I’ve noticed how often two actors in a scene pull in myriad directions, having separate ideas of where they’d like the scene to go. It’s as if they’re two different scenes—because they are. They aren’t communicating, so the scene is a mess that’s frustrating to be a part of and challenging to watch.
Intention is the glue that keeps you two in flow. The Intention workshop will give you tools to immediately see where you and your partner can connect and effortlessly play the beat like pros.
The Weekend Masterclass
Date: Saturday & Sunday, September 6 and 7, from 10:30 am - 5:30 pm, Each Day (1-hour Lunch Break)
Tuition: $350.00
Description: The Weekend Masterclass builds on Razowsky’s methodology of mindfulness, emotional awareness, kinesthetic responses, and truthfulness as outlined in his book, A Subversive’s Guide to Improvisation. The weekend masterclass will begin by reviewing the basics of connectedness and fly from there. This is gonna be good!
Prerequisite: This weekend workshop is open only to students who have attended at least one of the week’s previous workshops or a masterclass with Razowsky in person or virtually.
The challenge for most improvisers is trying to stick to “the rules” and believing “Yes, and” is the magic formula for a successful scene. Characters meander and never find their footing. In an instant, you travel from a state of fluidity to a mess of frustration and ask yourself, “How did I go wrong?” or “Now what?” Pick up A Subversive’s Guide to Improvisation and join the fun! (Books available for purchase at the workshops.)
These masterclasses provide methods and exercises that teach you to connect to your partner and the scene without worrying about the rules.

As I’ve written in my book, A Subversive’s Guide to Improvisation, Moving Beyond ‘Yes, and’”, your brain is a liar and an a**hole that does a great job out of talking you out of being the creative genius you know you are.
The doubt in that brain is the only thing that prevents you from making unique and interesting choices. Creative flow thrives when you understand you can do no wrong and that every impulse can lead you to exciting, rich characters and strong dynamics. Surprise yourself by opening up your channels of possibilities.
This masterclass is open to artists of all media looking to tap into the raw and vibrant spirit of “flow.”
